When registering at university you get your student identity card called “Semesterticket” that gives you free access to all buses and trains in Saarland.
Bus and tramway tickets
Until your university registration is complete you need to buy single or one week tickets. Bus tickets and Saarbahn (tramway) tickets are the same. Single bus tickets can be bought from the bus driver on board the bus. At the Saarbahn, single tickets can be bought from ticket vending machines at Saarbahn stations or on board the trains.
One week tickets, as well as timetables, can be obtained at the Kundenzentrum der Saarbahn (the public transportation company’s service centre, website only in German).
